About Mrs. MacDermott...
I grew up in Upstate New York (The Adirondack Mountains), and was part of an "education family." I knew from a young age that I was born to teach. I can't think of anything more exciting than seeing the joy on a child's face when mastering something new or becoming inspired to rise to the challenge.
I attended the State University of New York, College at Brockport, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Certification in Elementary Education. I also obtained my Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a Specialization in Literacy. I began my teaching career in Western New York where I taught for six years. After relocating to Long Island, where I have been teaching for six years, I then received my Gifted Education Extension and a Certificate in Educational Computing. In addition, I have also received my certification for Students with Disabilities.
I have now been provided the opportunity to teach the Horizons Program for the Wantagh Union Free School District. I am so excited to be working with this population of students! I am eager to provide my students with challenging experiences that will help them to understand more about themselves as learners and to inspire them to perform to their best potential!
When I am not focusing on my career, I love spending my time reading, hiking, camping, and searching for new adventures all over Long Island!
